How Ozone Generators are a Critical Step for Safe Automotive Detailing and Repairs

Protecting the safety of your team and customers is always important, but now more than ever, shops need to make sure your processes are in place and communicated clearly. “Zero Contact” signs are popping up everywhere from pet supply stores to lumber yards, and customers are beginning to expect “Zero Contact” experiences everywhere.

How can you ensure your shop is part of this new era of service? Putting together a sanitizing routine from scratch can be time-consuming, so we asked CSN Collision Centres’ Baseline location in Sherwood Park, Alberta to walk us through theirs. They have three steps:

  1. First the driver’s cabin is wiped down with 85% isopropyl alcohol sanitizing wipes, focusing on keys, push button start, seats, steering column, gear shift, hand brake, arm rests, front console, dash, door handles, and other high-touch points.

    2. After disinfecting/sanitizing, all major touch points are wrapped in protective plastic. Custom covers are placed on the seats, floor mats, steering wheel, gearshift, and parking brake.

    3. After repairs have been completed, the vehicle is thoroughly detailed and then run through a cycle with an ozone generator. The ozone generator disinfects any hard-to-access areas. Afterward, the protective plastic wraps are removed and the areas covered by the wraps are again wiped with 85% isopropyl alcohol wipes.

These steps are easy to understand. First, everything is wiped down and covered to protect your team. You may already use plastic covers, or you may have previously used paper to keep greasy boots and coveralls from dirtying interiors. Afterward, the interior is detailed and disinfected. So why the ozone generator?

Ozone generators remove pollutants and odors by bonding them to oxygen as the ozone breaks down, like the air after a thunderstorm. Because it’s a gas, it can reach into all the nooks and crannies of the interior. Your team does great work, but even the best detailing jobs can miss a microscopic spot. Having an ozone generator can speed up the process, while giving everyone peace of mind.
